Traditionally a mantra is any syllable, word, or verse that encourages spiritual awakening through repetition. A mantra can actually be any word, in any language, that creates a sonic vibration that tunes you into a specific mental/spiritual state.

To find a mantra that you can use as a tool for your mind, look for a sound that speaks to your heart. Think about different words that bring your into harmony with the state of awareness you are seeking. Love, peace, God or many others may resonate with your spiritual self.

Repeat your mantra silently in your mind or even out loud. Some times when you may find a mantra will give you the most benefit are when you are walking, washing dishes, taking a shower, going to sleep, or obviously meditating. Using your mantra while driving a car or operating potentially dangerous machinery may not be a good idea since your mind may drift away from what you're doing.

In our society we have many words thrown at us all day long. Some are words of worry, concern, danger and disaster (the news) and some are sad and lonely (music). At work we may be surrounded by words that keep us in our left brain (the logical part) which neglects our right brain, or emotional side.
