The zodiac is divided into twelve signs with each representing different phases
of experience. The reasons behind this are quite complicated, but can be summarized by the fact that in nature there are four
main "elements" (fire, air, earth, and water), and there are three ways in which each of these elements can operate
(intiating, consolidating, and altering). These three methods of operating are called cardinal, fixed and mutable qualities
in astrology. The four elements, each operating in one of the three different ways, make up the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
