What is the tarot?

Well, lets start off by talking about what tarot is NOT. People have an interesting sterotipical idea in society of what it is.
First I would like to say, no it is not satanic, or worshiping evil. There are a lot of people including myself, that truly loves and
have a high connection with the creator. If it were satin worship, I would have never gone near it at all.
People who read the tarot or not witches. Although some people who do read tarot might be pagan or wiccan, but those two are seperate.
Also tarot is not magic, now some people may take a tarot card, or several tarot cards and use it as a tool for a specific reason in there works, but this is not what tarot is traditionally used for. Another misconception about tarot is that you have to be psychic or have psychic powers to read tarot for yourself or other people. Not true. All you need us a subconscious mind, conscious mind, and an intuition.

What tarot really is, is a bridge to your subconscious mind. That part of you in your soul that is not only hidden, and works way deep down, its the same kind of stuff that your dreams are made of, but its also you connection to the outside world. You can think of tarot as a kind of "mirror mirror on the wall." Its your answers and connections to feelings, and deep buried thoughts and impressions about all of the different issues and matters going on in your life. So, when you either pick up the deck for yourself, or you have someone read for you, the cards are really a bridge giving you a connection to the wisdom you have in your subconscious mind, that is connected to universal subconscious.

Your probably thinking to yourself "So that's great! Okay so hows does tarot really work though ?" Well tarot talks to us in picture form. Using what we call archetype, and archetype is a universally present collectively inherited unconscious idea, a universal truth or theme. So lets take an example.......

Here we have the justice card, of the "Rider waite" tarot deck. Now when you see the justice card, part of how tarot works is that the visual imagery of the card reminds you of themes your familiar with in your life, so the first thing that might pop into your mind is Justice, you know the lady that holds the scale, you see statues and images like this around court houses, of coarse that symbology has a connected meaning of what happens at court houses. Or maybe you see the imagery of the crown, and shes holding a sword upwards, and somehow you may think of the statue of liberty, which is kind of a patriotic symbol that's more associated with America. Whatever imagery comes into your mind, the important thing to focus on when your getting this tarot reading, or seeing this card in a reading, is what it means in your life, but not only that, the tarot reader who's reading for you, is to also make the cards make sense in the context of whatever spread is on the table in front of them. In fact that is the responsibility of a good professional Tarot reader. They'll use a specific spread which is strategic arrangements of the cards, to more effectively address your question.

Now here I'd like to address another fear people have about getting Tarot readings, and that is "what if a scary card shows up in my reading, like the Death card. Does that mean I am going to die?" Or, the devil card. "Does it mean some evil spirit is after me, or is going to get me now because he showed up in my reading?" LOL, well no.

The death and the devil cards are two of many special cards in tarot known as the Major Arcana. They have very important  symbolic meanings. Personally, I relate the death card to the symbology of a butterfly. Your probably thinking, how on earth could you compare a butterfly with the death card? Easy. I have a habit of thinking beyond the surface. The death just might mean that you have a big change coming or transformation point in your life. The death card often actually means transformation and not literal death. The Devil in term also is an important card of the Tarot because it really represents temptation among other things. So the question might be, are you being tempted by something and how are you dealing with that temptation?

So you don't have to fear these cards. They really have specific meanings that apply in your life. Remember, symbolic language is far more powerful then the word language that we speak. A few symbols can tell a life time story. While on the other hand, it would take a whole book to tell a story in words. This is how powerful the Art of symbols is. Ancient Egyptians were strong on symbolic language, and often could tell the future by reading the divine symbols on earth, and in the sky.

After a tarot reading you should have a sense of calm, and reassurance about whatever question you had. You should also feel the sense of inspiration, maybe clarification that your issue was addressed. The reading should also inspire you to ask more questions and take action into solving the issue.

Getting in touch with this divine wisdom is not only a great opportunity, but it is also a lot of fun!!
